Eight Sümi women who secured MBBS seats in government colleges in 2018 were felicitated at the, held on the 24th of November at Hotel De Oriental Grand, Kohima. The Dr. Toshevi Sümi Totimi MBBS Award is an initiative of Dr. Toshevi Keditsu Sema and is officiated by Dr. K and T Keditsu Foundation in collaboration with Sümi Totimi Hoho, Nagaland. This award is presented annually to Sümi women who qualify to study graduate medical course (MBBS) in government colleges through National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and comprises a cash prize of Rupees One Lakh only. Dr. Toshevi Keditsu Sema (nee Chishi) is the first woman doctor among the Sümi tribe having completed her MBBS from Gauhati Medical College in 1977. This award arose from her great concern for the education and growth of Sümi women particularly in the field of medicine.

Speaking on behalf of the Awardees and their families, Dr. Hokishe Kiho thanked Dr. Toshevi Keditsu and the Foundation for their farsightedness and investment in the lives of the eight Sümi women awardees. He commended the Sümi Totimi Hoho for joining in this initiative and rendering their services to ensure proper identification and selection of awardees. Mrs. Khegholi K. Chophy, President, Sümi Totimi Hoho (APEX) stated that this award was a fulfillment of the legacy of Dr. Toshevi’s father Lukhashe Chishi and wished that the blessings would pass on to future generations. Speaking on behalf of Sümi Hoho, Kohima, President Dr. Vinito Chishi saw this award as an extension of national and global campaigns that are focusing on the empowerment of women through education. Mrs. Ghovili K. Achumi, President, Kohima Sümi Totimi Hoho expressed her delight to work together towards this award. She said this award would challenge young Sümi women to strive for academic excellence. The eight recipients of the Dr. Toshevi Sümi Totimi MBBS Award 2018 are Miss. Mughatoli Shikhu Swu, Miss. Khelito K. Awomi, Miss. Felika Y Chishi, Miss. Loinoli X. Yeptho, Miss. Vipitoli H. Kiho, Miss. Limugha S. Kiho, Miss. Akina P. Jimo, Miss. Kavitoli I. Aye. Kitoshi Kiba, Associate Pastor (Women), Sümi Baptist Church, Kohima prayed for blessings upon the awardees. Ms. Topeni Assumi delivered the vote of thanks and the event was chaired by Mrs. Yekatoli Chisho.
